Inspired by Nature – An Artist's Journey

My paintings are inspired by a lifelong fascination with the natural world, exploring its beauty, diversity and character through a variety of mediums and contrasting styles. Through my work, I aim to share not only what I see but also the emotions and experiences that connect me to my subjects.

My approach to painting is varied, moving from the delicate, controlled brushstrokes of detailed wildlife illustrations, reminiscent of traditional field guides, to the freedom and expression of broad, sweeping strokes across a canvas. Whatever the style, each painting is carefully considered, with particular attention to composition, balance, colour and tone.

Water has always held a special fascination for me. Living on Cornwall's beautiful Lizard Peninsula, I am surrounded by an ever-changing landscape, with the wild, stormy Atlantic Ocean on one side and the sheltered, tranquil creeks of the Helford River on the other. This contrast between the power and serenity of nature provides an endless source of inspiration.

Having lived in different parts of the UK and travelled extensively around the world, I have been fortunate to experience an extraordinary variety of landscapes, habitats and wildlife. These journeys have deepened my understanding and appreciation of the natural world, allowing me to explore a wonderfully diverse range of subjects in my paintings.

Parrots hold a particular fascination for me. Their extraordinary colours, expressive personalities and distinctive characters make them captivating subjects to paint. Having observed many species in their natural habitats during my travels, I am continually inspired by their beauty, individuality and remarkable plumage.

Ultimately, my work is about capturing more than the appearance of a subject. It is about conveying the atmosphere, character and emotion of the natural world, inviting the viewer to share in the experiences and moments that have inspired each painting.
